Set Back + 1

Posted in Running/Training on July 31, 2008 by Aaron

Well I haven’t really lost a day yet since today was going to be a rest day. I got some great advice from Derrick Spafford. It feels better then yesterday so I am not going to rush it. I know its my own fault and I need to be smarter…much smarter in my training because I know this type of injury is avoidable. Anyways positive thoughts! I think I will still be ready for the TIP Half on September 6th. So one good thing has come out of this…sort of….I was able to cut my lawn between rain showers and will no longer need to purchase a sickle or herd of cattle!!!!

Set back….

Today was hill day at the fort. Got there bright and early at 5:30 and did a warm-up loop of RMC then my hills consist of a start at the info booth to the top parking lot which I did at about a 4 K pace X 3. I follow that up with a cool down lap of RMC. I noticed a slight twinge around my left ankle during m cool down and it appears that there is something going on there. I have been icing it all day and will enforce a couple of rest days. Hopefully I can avert any significant time off from running.

RMC Loop

Back at it this morning for 10.5 K tempo run at 4.45 down to 4.42 as I ended…oops! Felt much better then yesterday. I was going to tackle the hills today but will do it on Wednesday. I like the Fort Hills and have noticed that doing them makes a difference. I remember what Tony Dunbar said as we approached a huge hill in Brockville the first time I went out with the BRRC….” Aaron that hill isn’t as bad as it looks….it’s much worse!”. Remind me to tell you the Carboom story!

Weird

After taking a rest day ( which leaves me feeling restless) I was back at it this morning on the same route I did Friday afternoon. The moment I started running a felt like I was wheezing and didn’t feel strong at all. My legs also felt very heavy and I was having difficulty keeping a 5 K pace. I think my allergies are starting (ragweed kills me). I felt pretty bad for the first 7 K’s but something clicked and I felt great the last four bringing my pace down to a 4.49. I don’t get it. My ankle/lower shin feels a little wonky but I did slam it against the bottom of a grocery cart on Saturday ( the kind of wallop that leaves a bump and bruise right away) soI will monitor that. I am off this Friday so I am planning for an easy 18 K. Tomorrow is “CHEAT” day as Margaret and I will be dining at Calamity Jane’s in Addison which is one of our favorite spots…deep fried calamari…can’t wait! I’ll be back up tomorrow morning for 10-11 K’s before work.

Long Run With Henry

Today I ran with the BRRC and only Henry DeSouza and myself broke off for the long run. We kept a pretty strong “conversational pace” of 5.01/K. Henry did great because he had already did a 10 K loop prior to our 15 K’s. He gave me some advice for the TIP half which sounds like it can be difficult. Once we got back to Timmy’s Jim Locke asked if I was doing the PEC Half. I would like to but I am getting my wisdom teeth out just prior to that so I will keep my options open if I feel ok.
